Tomorrowland Is Not Your Friend

Happy 2025!

I hope your holidays were filled with joy and that your New Year is off to a promising start. While none of us can predict exactly what the next twelve months will bring, I’m already anticipating and looking forward to several events.

One of those is Disneyland’s 70th Birthday—its Platinum Celebration—on July 17. But before we fast forward to that milestone (it’ll be here before we know it), let’s rewind seventy years to where Walt Disney was in January 1955.

It wasn’t a pretty picture. The property still looked more like an orange grove than a theme park. Half the time and half the money were already gone, and Walt openly admitted he was “scared.” Instead of dreaming about celebrations six months away, Walt was laser-focused on making the compromises necessary to get to Opening Day.

He turned his attention to Tomorrowland, the least developed area of the park. By January 1955, Tomorrowland was so far behind that Walt’s staff suggested boarding it up with an attractive fence and announcing it would open, well, “Tomorrow.” At first, Walt agreed. But shortly after, he reversed the decision.

“No,” he said. “We’ll open the whole park. Do the best you can with Tomorrowland, and we’ll fix it up after we open.”

That decision reveals so much about Walt’s character—and offers a powerful lesson for us all: Waiting for perfection often leads to getting nothing done at all. If Walt had waited for Tomorrowland to be “just right,” the park might not have opened on time. Instead, he embraced imperfection, took action, and trusted that he could improve things once he got started.

Don’t Wait for “Tomorrow”

As we step into 2025, it’s easy to fall into the trap of waiting for the “perfect” time to begin. We tell ourselves, I’ll start that project tomorrow. I’ll chase that dream when the timing is right. I’ll take that first step when I feel more ready.

But the reality is that tomorrow has a way of staying just out of reach. The truth? There’s no perfect time. There’s only now.

The weeds in your Tomorrowland can be labeled later. The fence can come down. Now. What matters most is taking action today—even if your plans aren’t perfect, the timing isn’t ideal, or the path ahead feels uncertain. Progress happens when we move forward, not when we wait for the stars to align.

So, what’s your Tomorrowland? What’s the goal, dream, or task you’ve been putting off while waiting for that elusive “perfect” moment? Don’t wait another day. Open your gates now. Do the best you can with what you have, and trust that you’ll have time to refine and improve along the way.
