All month we’ve been talking about Tomorrowland and learning lessons on how to beat procrastination in 2025. Thanks for being on the journey. Only one more to go, and it’s super-interesting and super-fun!
When Disneyland opened its gates on July 17, 1955, Tomorrowland stood as a gleaming promise of the future. Among its attractions was the Clock of the World, a sleek, modernistic timepiece that invited guests to ponder the world’s interconnectedness and the constant march of time. Towering above the entrance to Tomorrowland, the clock served as both a focal point and a reminder: The future is always coming, and the clock is always ticking.
Tomorrowland’s vision of the future was bold but specific. It imagined a world visited by Haley Comet’s next visit—in 1986—just thirty-one years after Disneyland’s debut. But here we are, nearly forty years beyond that once-distant future. The Tomorrowland of 1986 is now a vision firmly in our past. And the Clock of the World, long since removed, continues to teach an important lesson: Time waits for no one. If you want to create your version of the future, you need to start today.
The Clock Is Always Ticking
The Clock of the World wasn’t just a functional piece of art; it was a symbol of progress and urgency. Its rotating globe and synchronized time zones reminded visitors of the global nature of humanity and how the hours move forward without pause. Whether you’re standing in Anaheim or Tokyo, the hands of the clock continue to turn. The message was clear: The future isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you build.
Procrastination is the opposite of progress. It’s the decision to stand still while the world keeps moving. The longer we delay, the further the future drifts away from what we dream it could be. Just as Tomorrowland’s vision of 1986 is now part of our history, the time to act on our goals and aspirations will one day be in our rearview mirror if we’re not careful.
Lessons from Tomorrowland’s 1986 Vision
Tomorrowland’s original vision of 1986 included bold predictions about space travel, atomic energy, and technology. Some of these ideas became reality, while others faded into the realm of retrofuturism. But one thing is certain: Those who dared to imagine that future back in 1955 didn’t wait for the perfect moment to act. They embraced progress, even with all its imperfections, and set to work on the innovations that would shape the decades to come.
This spirit of action can teach us four valuable lessons about overcoming procrastination:
Time Moves Forward, With or Without
The Clock of the World never stopped ticking, and neither does the clock of your life. Delaying action doesn’t pause time—it only wastes it.
Imperfect Beginnings Are Better Than No Beginnings
Tomorrowland in 1955 wasn’t a perfect vision of the future, but it was a start. You don’t need to have everything figured out to take the first step.
Revisit and Revise
Just as Tomorrowland has been updated many times over the decades, your plans can evolve as you go. Start now and refine along the way.
Imagine the Future You Want
Walt Disney dared to imagine the world of 1986 in 1955. What could your life look like thirty-one years from now if you start today?
Get Busy: The Clock Is Ticking
The Clock of the World may no longer stand in Tomorrowland, but its lesson endures. Clocks don’t stop ticking, even when platforms like TikTok take a pause or shut down—time keeps moving forward, with or without us. The world won’t wait for you to catch up, so why wait to take action? Time is always moving forward, whether we’re ready or not. The question is: Are you going to let procrastination hold you back, or will you take action to build the future you want?
The truth is you don’t need a perfect plan or a flawless strategy to begin. All you need is the willingness to take that first step. The future isn’t waiting for you. It’s being created, moment by moment, by those who choose to act.
So, what will you do today to move closer to your dreams? The clock is ticking, and the world is waiting. Let’s get busy—there’s a great big beautiful tomorrow shining just beyond the horizon.
